Making the most of a shoe-string grocery budget...

Today was all about finally doing some much-needed grocery shopping. This is a chore I choose to ignore (heh that rhymed) most of the time but sadly, we were completely out of everything. So off to the store I went. In the middle of the day, no less.

Since Squishy was at work and I had the day off, I saw this as the perfect opportunity to go to the store without him and take my time with it. I didn't make a list, all I had was a desire to finally buy enough groceries to last a full 2 weeks for all 3 meals every day and stay under budget.

And I did it! I really did it. I bought 13 days worth of meals for $51! And best of all, I didn't use a single coupon. I bought it all at full price. Just imagine how much money I might have saved had I used coupons too.

Needless to say, I'm VERY proud of myself on this one.

So tonight, we're making pizza because well, it's easy, the roomies are supposed to be home soon from their big Halloween New Orleans trip so we want to be out of the way in case they want to cook too. This was the easiest way to be sure to be done early. Plus, S isn't feeling well so this is also easy on both of us.

Tomorrow night, I am trying another Pinterest recipe that involves frozen burritos. Sounds totally unhealthy but also wicked delicious. This one just might deserve a photo.

Eat well everyone!

Mid-Week Blahs

The last few nights have been spent eating what we like to refer to as "College Style." I have several staple meals that I keep ingredients for around the house just in case we're too poor to eat out or whatever. One of which was a sad little box meal of Cheesy, Ham and Hash Browns. I know, I know, the sodium content alone is enough to kill both of us but the whole meal cost us less than $5. You can't really beat that. Can you?

Tonight's dinner was a CS (College Style) favorite of smoked sausage and Knorr's Cheddar and Broccoli Rice. We ate what most would consider a hearty meal but tonight I am still ravenous. Debating a trip to the store for snacks or something. I hate when I get like this. All noshy and what-not.

Hope everyone is eating well this week. I would love to hear your thoughts. Not about what I'm eating (I already know it's horrible) but maybe what you're eating these days.

Monday is the worst day...

but the best dinner. Tonight was surprisingly tasty. We decided to make our own mini pizzas out of dollar store ingredients. I was extremely skeptical going into making these. I figured they would taste much like any other cheap pizza, pretty much like the box they come in. Not in this case. We piled it high with pepperoni and cheese and the entire dinner we had cost us $4. Definitely doing this again. Yummers!

Now we're having leftover chocolate birthday cake courtesy of our roommate and snuggling in bed. Well, I say snuggling but actually, I'm watching 90210 and he's playing a video game. But hey, we're together and that's all that matters.

Hungry Hungry Hippos!

Our inaugural entry. This should be fun. Our adventures today started at our weekly breakfast favorite, Golden Corral. I know what you're thinking, why on Earth would you eat at a buffet with all of the wonderful places out there? Well, we're poor, for one. And for two, we adore the omelet lady. She doesn't know that we secretly talk about her all week long looking forward to our weekly trip. She's so sweet and makes the best omelets on the planet. Naturally, this makes our week and the price is right. Today was no exception. It was awesome. We went super early (rare considering the Future Hubs is not a fan of the morning hours) and there weren't any screaming kids (super bonus). An awesome start to the day.

Lunch was snack food around the house. We were still in food coma from breakfast. Never a bad thing.

Dinner was a fantastic spread of Italian deliciousness at Joe's Pizza and Pasta. We ate our weight in bread and pasta. The service started out as less than stellar but ended on a high note. Plus, we laughed throughout dinner and came up with a new goofy phrase called the Dawn of Butter Time. Sure to be used again and again over the coming years.

Now, we are home, loafing around again, watching a movie and gaming. Yes, simultaneously. We're that good.
